Hirsch & Tracewell Partner to Deliver Identification and Security Solutions
Networked, Smart-card-enabled, Mobile Laptop Cabinets for Defense Markets are Alliance's First Joint Products
Nov. 18, 2010 – Santa Ana, CA and Columbus, OH –Hirsch, a leading security systems manufacturer and a business unit of Identive Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: INVE, Frankfurt Stock Exchange: INV), and Tracewell Systems today announced a strategic alliance to deliver new security solutions to government and industry. The joint development and marketing relationship has already resulted in one new product line: network-ready, secured, mobile cabinets that control access to drawer content, monitor access transactions and alarms, and, if used to store laptop computers, connect each drawer's computer to the network to enable remote management of software, patches and power. The first models have been deployed at U.S. Air Force bases to secure and update their eTool laptops hosting electronic technical manuals for aircraft maintenance.
"The product line has applications in several market segments," explained Rob Harris, Tracewell's director of sales and marketing. "Since both Tracewell and Hirsch have the Air Force as a current customer, we co-developed these first models to the Air Force's specifications. The cabinets are already deployed at several bases to help streamline and speed aircraft maintenance -- getting our fleet back in the air faster. We also secure the cabinets' contents and provide the necessary tracking and audit information."
"Tracewell and Hirsch partnered in this joint development because together we could offer a unique product that solves a big market problem, which is how to secure critical assets in highly demanding environments, yet keep them mobile and easily accessible for authorized users," commented Scott Elliott, Hirsch's director of government sales. "We see our partnership with Tracewell resulting in solutions that fit the challenging and exacting requirements of DoD/military environments as well as aerospace, telecom, medical, industrial, and even some commercial markets."
Each cabinet incorporates an on-board access control panel, common access card (CAC) smart card and PIN code reader for two-factor identity authentication, Ethernet network switch, power surge protection, and power and thermal management. Each drawer includes a network cable port, drawer position sensor (open, closed), content sensor (present, not present), relay and electronic lock, and a multi-color status LED. The rugged, wheeled cabinet is designed for worldwide use in maintenance hangers and soon will be deployed directly on the flight line. The unit communicates via encrypted channel to the DIACAP-certified and accredited Hirsch Velocity Security Management System which provides access control administration, alarm monitoring, load balancing, and a variety of tracking and audit reports.
